A MATTER OF FAITH: BIBLE STUDY

2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God might be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

I know people who cannot remember a time when they did not go to church, as an infant with their parents and as parents themselves with their children. I also know regular church goers who do not know if hell is real or if Jesus was born of a virgin.
People don’t know, are not sure, have heard but never determined for themselves because they do not study Scripture.  There are people who accept the teaching that sprinkling water over your body is what it means to be baptized and others who believe you cannot enter heaven if your entire body was not immersed in water. Many people I know do not believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, for the record I do. Most of the people today who identify themselves as Christian do not study the Bible.

Church attenders adhere to the teachings of the church leader.  There is a growing number of church leaders reinterpreting Scripture to reflect liberal philosophies and political correctness, justifying there actions through the manipulation of Scripture which the people do not study for themselves. The result of so many people being ignorant of what is actually written is: those who call themselves Christian no longer believe that the words from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 are all God inspired, God determined and very relevant.

The Bible, all of it, should be the basis of church philosophy: its’ “Statement of Faith” and associated doctrines taught to it’s members. However, those who sit under the teachings of various ministries and call himself a Christian are personally responsible for the information accepted.

2 Peter 1:20
“knowing this first, no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for the prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

Scripture is the basis for living therefore it is the guidelines for what to do and not to do and how God wants His children to behave. When a man or woman stands before a congregation and says, ‘There is nothing wrong with homosexuality,’ for example, they are not speaking God’s word (which is what prophecy is) they are releasing their own interpretation. Each individual has to have personal knowledge of what God’s will is which is found in His word.

The reason we need to study the Bible is because there is so much false teachings out there that a person can sit in a church for years and not know he is being taught a lie.

Mark 7:9,13
“He said to them, “All to well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition,”… “making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.””

People who live a comfortable life and do all the ‘Christiandom’ things that they think are appropriate based on what their Church Leader teaches believe their faith is strong. Unfortunately, they do not realize how they fail daily to trust Scripture. By accepting same-gender marriages, abortions and being politically correct they are going against the Word. By submitting to rules and regulations because of their job that teach you cannot talk about being a Christian at the workplace a person is ignoring a commandment and biblical principle.

Matthew 10:33
Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

There are no exception clauses to God’s guidelines, aka commandments. People say: There is a time and place for everything and then put God in a Sunday morning box. Faith in God through Jesus is a twenty-four hour seven day a week activity and our life must reflect that.

2 Timothy 2:15 King James Version
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Bible Study is not reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation in a year, though doing so is a good thing. Every time a person reads the Bible all the way through he learns more. Studying Scripture helps the reader get to know God better, it is how we see how much He loves His creations. It will also help a person determine if the church he is so dedicated to is really feeding his spirit or just providing a traditional weekly activity.

Acts 17:23-28
“For as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this description: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you; God who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with man’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they may grope for Him and find Him; though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said. “For we are also His offspring.
