A MATTER OF FAITH: HOPE DOES NOT DISAPOINT

Romans 8:24
For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?

Concrete solutions becomes the basis of many individuals. When a person says “I hope this works” they are referring to their own measurable efforts. Even Christians put their hope in what they believe to be a ‘sure thing’  because they can see it or know the results will be visible within a set time, such as a lottery ticket. Faith is based on a hope that has nothing to do with concrete solutions or individual efforts.

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen.

The life of the Believer is based on an unseen understanding that Father God has established a destiny for every individual that will facilitate his or her ability to overcome any obstacle. It is that invisible yet unyielding conviction that becomes the evidence that we will not be disappointed. It will be as we believe.

Romans 8:28  THE VOICE
We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.

When we submit to Father God we know we will not be disappointed by life. This submission includes allowing His Son, Jesus, to be Lord of our life. In exchange for our faith and submission He has promised to guide us to success.

Doubt is an indication of a lack of faith, not believing. Doubting, worrying, and even quitting means that hope was not really present; perhaps the individual was simply wishing, an ambiguous mindset. Wishful thinking is not faith filled thinking.

Faith is the basis of hope. Faith is the essence of why you believe you are going to receive therefore you have hope. Without faith you are hopeless.

We have not seen Him yet we believe, that is faith; it does not take faith or hope for what is visible.  Our actions reflect the confidence that we have what we prayed for but has not yet materialized.  Our hope is our prayer.

Luke 1:37
For with God nothing will be impossible.

BACK2 BASICS: PASSIONATE PREPPER

One of the things I see in Preppers is passion. Passion is an emotion and emotions lead to behaviors that are not always beneficial. Domesday Preppers are, to say the least, extreme in their mindset to the point in which I would say some have become overly cautious; fearful.

The Bible tells us to be ready not to be fearful. Those who trust God more than man can be watchful and live in peace.

Of course the flip side is those who choose not to get ready for emergencies. Recently the news reported that the entire island of Puerto Rico was without electricity, not everyone was ready for the emergency. Nor was Flint Michigan ready for bad water. There is no where in the United States of America where some type of emergency preparedness is not necessary, everyone should be ready.

In my book YOU’RE NOT READY I discuss prepping from a Christian perspective presenting a biblical basis for prepping.

The more I learn the more I appreciate passionate Preppers, even if they are wrong they are right.  It is the passionate Preppers that teach me what I need to consider in my efforts to be ready for emergencies. Had everyone on the island of Puerto Rico been a Prepper no-lights would have been no problem.

As I have said in numerous post I am a hybrid-Prepper, mainly because my husband is not a “Prepper” though he is  more read for emergencies than most.

PORCH STORIES: WILMA'S DELIMA

It wasn’t the hottest day of the summer but it was pretty close and there was very little breeze arriving on the porch where I was sitting peeling potatoes. Wilma got out of her brand new car not looking very content.

“My goodness Miss Wilma, what has got you so down?”

“I’m tired Miss Nettie, I am just plain old tired.” She answered.

“Girl, don’t let life defeat you. You have to much going on in your favor.”

“Yes, I know.” She said as she climbed up the steps onto the porch.  After kissing me on the cheek she sat down on the step for a minute and then stood back up and headed inside the house.

Wilma was one of the few people I let inside my house. I know she was going to get something to drink. And say hello to my husband who was probably in the back yard working in the garden. Five minutes later she came out with three tall glasses of ice tea with my husband following her, she handed him the keys and off he went to test drive the car.

“You gonna let that man drive your new car?”

“Of course! Poppa wanted to see what it was like and so I gave him the key.” Wilma answered as she watched her car pull out of the driveway.

“What is Aaron going to say if he finds out you let someone drive your new car?”

“Nothing. And if he did I don’t care. I am tired of all this foolish keeping up with the Joneses stuff!”

“What’s going on Wilma?”

“Miss Nettie, it is nothing that is ‘going on’ it is just things are not going. Aaron’s solution to everything is to buy more stuff. He compares his happiness to what the neighbors are doing. Our children are in private school because the neighbor’s children are in private school. I got a new car because he was talking to someone who just bought his wife a new car and he thought it would be a great idea for me to get one even though the last one is not even two years old yet.
“I have three children and drive a two seater sports car, I have to borrow a car if I want to take the kids somewhere?  Of course you know because I borrow your truck from time to time.
“All I want to do is live a simple life. He tolerates me selling my crafts, he thinks it is cute that I hang out with other women at the flea market. He doesn’t know about my website. He calls it: “something to do when I am not taking care of him”. Really! Aaron does not take my goals seriously. He does not respect my ideas and I am tired of being treated like the upstairs maid with benefits.
“I am thinking about pulling the kids out of private school and homeschooling them and parking that car and buying me a used car with my own money.”

“Why would you do that without Aaron's’ agreement?” my husband heard the tail end of Wilma’s words.

“Because Poppa whenever I tell Aaron ‘no’ he does things anyway and we just cannot afford all of these things. I mean we can technically afford it but it is not leaving us much of a cushion. Just cutting out private school for three children will alleviate enough dollars so that I can do some work around the house, some upgrades.”

“So let me get this straight.” My husband began. “You do not like the idea that you can work from home, while your children are in private school and you are forced to drive this nice sports car?”

“Yes.” Wilma answered

I had finished peeling sweet potatoes so I took them inside as my husband took his seat. When I returned Chip had finished talking and was sipping on a glass of iced tea.

“The problem isn’t the car or the school. The problem is your relationship with each other. Giving you the car is his way of saying I love you and want to care for you. When you reject the things he presents to you you are rejecting him.”

“Miss Nettie we had this conversation on more than one occasion. When I try and tell him I don’t want this stuff he works harder and trying to get more. If he does not buy for me he buys for the children - stuff they don’t want.
“He told me this morning we are going to have a catered dinner party Friday. That’s in two days, people I do not know are coming to my house to eat! Why, I don’t know! But it is suppose to be OK because it is catered. More money spent on our tight household budget.”

Wilma suddenly stood up and started walking towards her car. “Miss Nettie, Poppa, I am going to a lawyer. I just made up my mind. I am going to file for a legal separation and kick him out of the house and get my children out of that school they hate. No more fake family for us!”

“Child” Chip yelled. The tone of his voice caught us both off guard. “If you are so anti-stuff then you need to leave the house. You go and leave the children there- no need in disrupting their life because you have a problem.”

“Me Poppa? Why should I leave” A bewildered Wilma asked.

“Because, you did not earn anything. Aaron works for and pays for everything in that house. If you think he spends to much money, give him your credit cards and stop spending the money he earns. Live off of what you make - that will be the simple life. If you think that car is to fancy stop driving it- take the bus!  Don’t blame Aaron because you decided you don’t like the life you are living.”

“But Poppa…”

“Don’t Poppa me! You come here complaining because your husband bought you a new car and your children are getting an excellent education. Aaron may not enjoy the idea of you selling crafts but he does not stop you. And for the record, he does know about your website. Wilma you are being selfish and judgmental. Yes, Aaron is materialistic but he can afford his expenses as long as you don’t go credit card crazy and remodel entire rooms without telling him.”

All of a sudden I started laughing. I stood there looking at this young lady wearing a diamond tennis bracelet, diamond earrings, a large diamond ring on her finger next to her wedding band and her designer clothes.  Chip had peeped through her persona.

“Wilma,” I started “the problem is not Aaron keeping up with the Joneses but you wanting to be head of your household. Go back to work in some office, where you can boss people around and get paid to do it.”

Not expecting the response she got from either of us Wilma left without saying a word. Sometimes young women can be silly- that’s all I have to say about it.

MY COUNTRY CITY PROJECT: I AM LOOKING FOR A SIMPLE PATTERN!

One of the reasons I decided to stop sewing my own clothes was because it was cheaper to purchase clothes than to make them. Over the years the cost of fabric and patterns have increased and when the cost of the accessories was added to the price a good sale on a standard fit garment seemed better than tailored fit. What is available in the stores today are trendy and far to revealing for my taste so I am back to making my own clothing.

Every time I walk into a fabric store I want to kick myself. About ten years ago I decided that I had to much stuff and gave away containers filled with mostly new patterns. I also gave away some fabric that I did not know what to do with and allowed a friend to use my sewing machine!

Over the years I have developed a particular style that does not change with the season. Making my clothes has become a better option than purchasing them, particularly since they are not available. I choose to wear ankle length skirts and short sleeve blouses. Finding the right patterns has become an adventure.

The patterns that I am looking for are considered “Vintage” by many of the pattern companies which means they cost more than the standard patterns. They are the patterns I gave away! Of the available patterns the styles are not what I am looking for, I want more of an “A” line skirt. I purchased a shirt pattern that I thought would work for me but when I looked closely I discovered the fit would not hang properly on my curves.

I am not giving up. However, I refuse to pay more than $5 for a pattern so I will have to wait for a sale. Patterns can go on sale for as little as $2 each.

I am also looking for fabric. Yes, I know you can order it but I prefer to see and feel my fabric. Perhaps, in the future, I will order fabric from a particular place once I am confident in the quality of the fabric as well as the speed to which it is delivered, customer service would be a factor as well.  For now I will continue to purchase fabric at Hobby Lobby using my 40% off coupon and a few of the other non-chain places in my community.

For now I am making simple maxi skirts from a pattern shared on YouTube.

A MATTER OF FAITH- WHAT DO YOU SEE PT. 2

It is easy to focus on problems, the reminders of what is not right are all around you. Friends and family will remind you of your shortcomings. The media will emphasize the problems of this world. The mail will let you know about how much money you owe. And your body will let you know that you are not in perfect condition. As Believers we are told that no matter what we are going through we will have peace if we focus on Him and not the problem.

Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trust in You.

It is one thing to read Scripture it is another thing to believe it when problems occur. Faith is hard to hold onto when we are looking at a problem that seems insurmountable.

Hebrews 11:1 THE VOICE
Faith is the assurance of things you have hoped for, the absolute conviction that there are realities you’ve never seen.

It is not what you see that is key to overcoming but what you believe. Prayer helped Elisha’s servant see what he could not see (see 2 Kings below).  Surrounded by an army determined to kill them the servant panicked, Elisha prayed to Jehovah and the servant saw what Elisha knew was there- victory for him and his servant.

We don’t see Father God but we know He is present. He is the source of our hope for a positive outcome to our problems. Lack of faith will cause you to see your problems and become overwhelmed; faith allows you to see the victory and live in peace.

1 John 5:4
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world- our faith.

No matter what the problem Jehovah Eloheem is the solution.

2 Kings 6:15-17
Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servants said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.”  Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

NPA: VOTING FOR HILLARY CLINTON

Since creating this video the former Senator and Secretary of State Mrs. Hillary R. Clinton has gone on record as supporting abortions when the mother is at term (the 9th month). She also revealed a military secret that only those who needed to know knew- the amount of time it takes to launch a nuclear weapon.

LIVING BETTER: WHAT ABOUT pH

*Note I am not a medical professional. The following is my opinion and not meant to be treated as advice. Please do your own research and consult your physician.

I took Anatomy and Physiology twice when I was in school to be a Licensed Practical Nurse and then when I attended college to become a Registered Nurse; I got an A both times. The knowledge I obtained qualified me to care for individuals with all types of diseases but I did not apply that same information to my own health. I left the health care profession entirely in 2007 the knowledge I obtained remains with me.
As I and many people I know get older and I see so many of my friends and family taking prescriptions I made the conscious decision not to follow suit.  I was introduced to the AIM COMPANIES years before I started using the products. My aversion to pill taking led me to be a customer and then an Independent Distributor, my need to know as much about the product as possible facilitated my taking the necessary classes and becoming a Living Well Coach with the company. I would rather exercise and eat right than take pills that could destroy my body or worst kill me (as the commercials mention rather quickly).

The question was: Why? Why does Barley Life and Frame Essential work? Why do people tell me to drink more water and less soda? The products offered via the AIM COMPANIES has worked for me very well however they are costly. I believe they are supplements that are meant to supplement your diet until you are eating the right things. In researching the why I discovered the importance of pH.

The pH scale measures the acidity and alkalinity of a substance, even gardeners are aware of the pH of soil and plants.  The pH of various systems in the body influences how it functions. Though most people are aware of the pH of blood which is slightly alkaline not all organs have the same pH, for example gastric juice in the stomach is very acidic.

What we eat plays an important role in regulating the body’s pH. By being aware of how things we eat and drink influence the levels and what can happen if we are to acidic or to alkaline is important, particularly since it is literally a matter of life and death.

Some of the problems of having a body that is too alkaline include:  low potassium, low calcium, arthritis, allergies, and hypo-thyroid. Some of the problems associated with an acidic body includes: a dry cough, diabetic coma, irregular heart beat, muscular weakness, nausea, being tired but unable to rest, experiencing anxiety, and  frequent sighing.

Whether you are awake or asleep your body is constantly trying to maintain homeostasis- a balance. It will rob from one system to provide for the other causing problems in the system it took from. For example: if there is a calcium deficiency the body will take from the bone which will lead to such problems as arthritis.  Talk about robbing Peter to pay Paul!

The table below reveals pH levels of various fluids we are familiar with. The next table shares a list of some alkaline and acidic foods.  Now I understand why people say chemotherapy can kill you!

One of the things I learned is that people can over compensate for a deficiency creating the opposite problem. For example: people can drink to much alkaline water (I didn’t know there was such a product.)
