A MATTER OF FAITH: BIBLE STUDY

2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

READING YOUR BIBLE FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION
Many study Bibles have a guide to help you read the Bible in one year. I always recommend people read the entire Bible straight through at least once and then read it again slowly.
For those who are new believers reading the New Testament (I prefer the New Covenant) first will help. I have heard a Bible teacher say: The Old Testament is Jesus concealed the New Testament is Jesus revealed.

A MATER OF FAITH: UNcHRISTIAN CHRISTIAN

ACTS 11:26 NIV
Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.

On a recent post I coined a phrase ‘un-Christian Christian.’  To be a Christian a person must be a follower of Jesus the Christ; far to many follow man.

A disciple is a student, a person who is learning which is an ongoing process.  Having a PhD in Theology does not mean you know all there is to know about the Bible; it is an indication that you have fulfilled the institutions requirements for learning a subject. Those who know God’s word believe in  and submit to what is written are called Christian.

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

It is popular today to promote a particular ideology and weave it into Scripture. Thus homosexuality and abortion are declared acceptable forms of behavior. When I hear of religious leaders stating that they will allow Muslim services to be held in their buildings I cringe. Leaders of various churches present doctrine, how the church interprets Scripture, as biblical though it may not be- as in the case of polygamy.
Many people consider themselves Christians with footnotes. They know that the Bible speaks against certain behaviors but because he, she or a loved one lives a particular lifestyle which goes against God’s word they want to believe God understands.  Yes, we all sin and fall short of God’s expectations. The footnote is that there are some who before, during, and or  after a behavior know that God does not sanction such an act but do it anyway- they set aside their faith to do what they want to do.
When I read stories about churches who ordain Lesbians as church leaders and perform same sex unions I look up. It is because of God’s mercy that Jesus has not come yet!
When I hear about churches who are taking down symbols of Christianity to allow Muslims to use their building to worship their god I become dumbfounded! Do these people not read their Bible?
It is not enough to call yourself a Christian you must be a follower of Jesus the Son of God. Jesus is the Anointed One, He is the only way, the real truth and the source of life (John 14:6). Jesus is the Word thus when you read Scripture you are being taught by Him (2 Timothy 3:16). If you reject the words of God in exchange for the opinions of man you cannot be a follower of Christ- you are not a Christian.

2 TIMOTHY 2:15
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 3:1-7
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control,, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn Away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

An un-Christian Christian- a person who is not a follower of Christ but tells people he or she is.  xxx Marsha L F Randolph

A MATTER OF FAITH: SALVATION

December 25th is the day we pause to celebrate the birth of Jesus the Son of God. It is not His actual date of birth however we can honor Him by blessing others. Today is also a good day for many to allow the spirit man that is in them to be born -again.

JOHN 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Those words are tough to the unbeliever. They are not the politically correct churches declare these days but Jesus speaks truth because He is the truth. His words are infused with love, if He did not love you He would not have come to tell you.

You cannot go to heaven if you did not accept the full identity of Jesus while you are here on this earth. You must believe that He is the Son of God and also the son of man. (Mark 15:39, Luke 22:69-70)

ROMANS 10:8-10
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

What does it mean to be saved? You must understand that the world could not have been created without God. No bangs, no evolution, only His word. Then you must come to an understanding of self how your shortcomings are in need of help- a Savior. You can believe in the Son of God but not admit to yourself that you need Him to help you; you can believe Jesus is the Son of God but not allow Him to exercise Lordship of your life. To be “saved” means that the troubles of this world cannot be victorious in your life, you are an overcomer because of what Jesus did.

Walking down the aisle of a church and repeating words someone has instructed you to say does not make you a Christian, nor does raising your hand and filling out an information card.  To be a follower of Christ requires belief and acceptance of truths that the world, including some churches, will tell you are not true such Jesus being the only way. Inviting Jesus to be Lord of your life is personal, very personal.

Romans 1:20-21
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

The realities of God are all around us; it takes a lot of effort to not believe. The big bang theory was just a theory that has been dis-proven; fingerprints, the human body, including the steps involved in a baby being born are just a few of the elements that disprove a bang.  Evolution was just a theory that was also dis-proven; the fact that monkeys/ apes stopped evolving is proof enough for me. Other religions have gods that are dead or can be rebuilt but cannot present the benefits provided by the Creator through salvation such as healing.

Life is the basis of faith; the more we understand about the human body, as well as the many different types of plants and animals the easier it is to believe that HE IS. And it is in understanding the totality of living beings the easier it is to believe in a Higher Power.

The Bible speaks of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit.  Salvation is an act of faith that begins with knowing in your soul that there is a power greater than yourself and that you cannot live peacefully without the help of this power. No church can teach you how to believe but the Spirit of God can reveal these truths to you and often uses man to do so.

By definition a savior is one who rescues; Jesus is Savior the One who can rescue you from the penalties of sin.  Some people think they can save themselves, correct their own mistakes, until they are faced with a situation that proves otherwise.  We all need Father God to help us daily.
How do we establish a relationship with God knowing that we are such imperfect beings? Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” If you believe that Jesus: is the only begotten Son of Father God; He was born of a virgin; He was crucified for the sins of others; He spent three days and three nights in a tomb; and then Father God raised Him from the dead, then you can have the benefits of salvation.  What you believe you confess.

A CONFESSION LIKE THIS:
I believe Jesus is the Son of God and the son of man. I believe that God the Father raised Jesus from the dead. I believe Jesus was born of a virgin, lived on earth as a man, was ridiculed, disrespected, rejected by many, bruised, wounded, endured 39 stripes and lived and was then nailed to the cross and hung to die. I believe Jesus was buried and spent three days and three nights in hell. I believe Jesus took back what Satan had taken from man and returned to earth being raised from the dead by God the Father. I believe Jesus spent some time on earth after being raised from the dead before publicly being ascending into heaven. I believe that Jesus my Lord and Savior is sitting on the right hand of Father God waiting for the day Father tells Him to return to earth.
I forgive those who have committed wrongs against me and ask and receive the Forgiveness of Father God.(Mark 11:25) I accept Jesus as Lord and ask Him to be Lord of my life. I yield myself to His will therefore I am saved and receive the benefits thereof. AMEN

A MATTER OF FAITH- THE STORY OF JESUS BIRTH

MATTHEW 1:18-25
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son.And he called His name Jesus.

LUKE 1:28-38  2:8-14
And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”

But when she saw him,she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”

And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

A MATTER OF FAITH: REJOICE

ROMANS 15:7-13
Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us,to the glory of God. Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers, and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written:
“For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles, and sing to Your name.”
And again he says: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people!”
And again: “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles! Laud Him, all you peoples!”
And again, Isaiah says: “There shall be a root of Jesse; and He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, in Him the Gentiles shall hope.”
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

ISAIAH 9:6-7

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
