Self-indulgence never makes a person happy, it only leaves them wanting more.
PROVERBS 27:20 NIV
Death and Destruction are never satisfied, and neither are human eyes.
The idea that a person has to have (fill in the blank) and then when she gets it needs more is a clue as to the existence of a self-indulgent desire.
When a person gets angry because something is not done exactly as he requested, despite the individual performing the task the best that he could, is an indication of an unsatisfied soul.
Standing in line for hours to purchase a new cell phone, going into debt to purchase unnecessary items, drug addictions, or the inability to maintain long-term relationships are indications of personal dissatisfaction. No, you may not die physically but your heart becomes hardened to the truth of God’s blessings and your soul dies a little with every self-indulgent act.
Financial and relational destruction can occur when a person puts his or her needs ahead of others,
MATTHEW 5:6 THE VOICE
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness—they will be filled.
It is not wrong to do things for yourself the error comes in satisfying yourself at the expense of others. Living life God’s way brings joy.
