A MATTER OF FAITH: TIRED OF BEING A CHRISTIAN

I would guess that political correctness existed back in the Apostle Paul’s day when he wrote the letter to the Colossians. It was not called “being politically correct” but the laws of the land ensured that a person could not speak against the government or offend the social elites. Sexual perversions also existed back then (Romans 1:24-27), as did Christian persecution. Therefore, the challenge to live as a follower of Christ Jesus, the Lord, is not an unreasonable thing to ask.

COLOSSIANS 2:6-10
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.  For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;  and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

The same warning that was necessary two-thousand years ago is needed today. A philosophy is a sophisticated way of saying belief; Christianity is a belief. Many, Believers and non-Believers, are being cheated.  There are philosophies prevalent, political, social and religious, that direct many away from God. You must know what the Word of God actually says and live accordingly.

JOHN 15:19
If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

Don’t expect anyone to endorse your lifestyle. Again, DO NOT EXPECT ANYONE TO ENDORSE YOUR CHRIST CENTERED LIFESTYLE.  You cannot live like everyone else because you are not like everyone else. Jesus also said:
MATTHEW 10:33
But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
You cannot be a a ‘proper’ Christian on the Sabbath and live like the world on other days. No one wants to be rejected, no one wants to be alone, but to declare your faith causes many to distance themselves from you. It is difficult to be a Christian AND be accepted by those who live in the world, I would say it is impossible.

Many Believers in Jesus find it is very difficult to follow the teachings of Christ and obtain things they want. Faith is compromised, the Word disregarded, because the world does not live the way God says it should. Scripture is taken out of context, unintentionally or intentionally, to justify getting what is wanted or needed.

It is a challenge to not think the way people in the world think. Same gender relationships, abortion, the acceptance of Islamic practices such as prayer within the walls of Christian institutions (churches and schools) and other such behaviors that the Bible speaks against are ignored or justified in the name of tolerance.

It can be hard to live God’s way while everyone else is lying, cheating, stealing and manipulating there way to achieving their goals. There are days when you grow weary of doing things the right way because it looks like you are no closer to success than you were years ago. But don’t quit because of what you see continue because of what you know.

GALATIANS 6:9
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
No one says “I am tired of being a Christian!” but their behavior may indicate that they are.  The woman who has endured a loveless marriage for years and yearns to spend the rest of her days with someone who does not take her for granted she may want to leave, even though he is not abusive nor an adulterer. To the 30-something who is still single the idea of never finding a mate may lead to premarital sexual activity. The person who never seems to have enough money doing things buying food for someone else using their food stamp card to get the cash; or giving someone less cash than the value of the food purchased when that someone uses a food stamp card. They all know what the word of God says BUT they see what is happening in the world.

Why not do these things? Who does it hurt? Colossians tells us to “walk in Him” just as we received Him, be consistent in your behavior as a follower of Christ. Galatians says: “let us not grow weary while doing good,” don’t quit just because it does not look like things will get better. And Jesus said: “I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you;” what is happening in your life is not a surprise to Father God.

When you first became a Christian you were determined to do things God’s way. BUT then the cares of this world became a distraction.
MARK 4:19
and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
When a person becomes weary of being a Christian he has reached a point in which he does not know what else to do. When you are tired it becomes easier to do things as the world does rather than wait on the Lord.
1 Corinthians 3:19
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”;
Being tired of being a Christian is what leads to words like: “God knows my heart,” or “things are different.” It is when you get tired of waiting on God that you question your faith- “Has God indeed said,…” (Genesis 3:1 NKJV) Does the Bible really mean “thou shalt not?”

PROVERBS 3:7 The Expanded Bible
Don’t ·depend on your own wisdom [L- be wise in your own eyes]. ·Respect [Fear; Hold in awe] the Lord and ·refuse to do wrong [L- turn away from evil].

Sometimes you have to have an ‘in spite of’ mindset. In spite of what you see and hear you will trust God and do things His way.

HEBREWS 11:8
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
The challenge for Believers is to focus on the Word and not the world. Faith should not be based on what you see or hear but what you know.

DEUTERONOMY 7:9
“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
When you become tired of being a Christian it is because you are focused on the world and not the Word. Jesus told us to come to Him and He would give us rest (Matthew 11:28)not stress. It is also written that you will have tribulation while in this world (John 16:33) but we overcome trouble through Jesus. A marathon runners mindset is needed in order to have victory.

Galatians 6:9
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
I BELIEVE times are not going to get any easier. It is important for those of us who want to spend eternity with Father God to trust Him  and do those things that please Him. If you are tired of being a Christian, if you are tired of doing the right thing, if you feel like you want to compromise your faith then dig a little deeper into the Word.   xxx written by Marsha L F Randolph

NETTIE-ISM:

In order to succeed I have to disregard every word spoken by others and focus on Him. Success through God is not temporary.

MY COUNTRY CITY PROJECT: PLANNING A GARDEN

MY TOMATOES
I really do like to just do stuff and then figure the logistics later, what I should have done instead. However, now that I am comfortable with container gardening and understand the climate I live in I want to grow more. I need to make plans.

People who live in north of me, which is most of the, United States, have a different growing season than I do here in Zone 10b, they also have a different type of soil. Thus the channels I subscribe to on YouTube can tell me what worked for them but can only give me a general idea of what will work for me. It took a great deal of researching to find what I could plant and when to plant it. (OK- I just Googled and YouTubed!)

Now that I know what I want to plant, and when I need to plant everything I have to learn what to do with what I grow. There seems to be quite a bit of information about how to plant a particular fruit, vegetable, or herb but not much about what to do once they have grown. I learned in 2016 that it is very important to PLAN YOUR HARVEST before the harvest.

I think people become discouraged when they do not plan every step of the way. So before you grow ask yourself a few questions:

  • What do you want to plant?
  • Can you actually plant that where you live?
  • Where can it grow? In a container, or does it have to be in the grown? Does it need shade, full sun or partial sun?
  • Where are want to put it? Does it have enough room to properly develop?
  • How do you maintain it? How water does it need? Do you have to fertilize? And if so what type and how often? What type of diseases do you have to look out for? What do those diseases look like?
  • When is the harvest?
  • What is the yield per plant?
  • Do you know what you want to do with your harvest? Eat everything right away; give some away; preserve (can, dehydrate, freeze). If you are going to preserve: do you know how?
  • Do you have the time and patience?

For most people it is not that they cannot grow things, everyone can grow something, people just don’t want to put in the time.

MY HOUSEPLANTS
The easiest plant I have to maintain is Lucky Bamboo. It sits in a jar of rocks and distilled water (no soil) and grows- slowly. The most difficult plant I have had was the Tomato, making sure it had water, fertilizer and pest free was almost a daily chore.

The logistics of gardening. making sure you have what you need when you need it, requires more planning than just waking up and deciding you want to grow something. My second attempt at gardening was successful because I did not try to feed my household, I wanted to know what to expect “if.”  Now I am going to take it to another level, in anticipation of a larger crop a friend is going to teach me how to can.

A MATTER OF FAITH: JESUS IS LORD

When I was new in the church, not possessing the confidence needed to voice what I believed I did not challenge those who said: “God knows my heart.” The statement, though true, was a cliche’ lacking a biblical basis. Often the speaker makes this declaration when his words or behavior is questioned.

“Lord, I am willing to break MY heart that I might satisfy THY heart.” ― Watchman Nee, The Normal Christian Life

Watchman Nee was, in my opinion, a wise man full of faith (November 4, 1903-June 1, 1972). His teachings have been transcribed to books that take me months and sometimes years to read.

Consider what he said in the above statement: “I am willing to break my heart.” When you understand that your heart falls short of God’s expectations the knowledge of His mercy and grace is humbling- you are willing to ‘break’ your heart. It is not your heart that is important but God’s heart that we should seek.
ACTS 13:22
And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’
This word ‘heart,’ which is the Greek word ‘kardia’ indicates feeling. When a person declares “God knows my heart” he is saying: “God knows how I really feel.”  The problem is many people do not know how they really feel until something happens. Believing Jesus is Lord is step one of our faith journey allowing Him to be Lord over every part of our lives is a process and it begins with knowing your heart, how you really feel..

James chapter 2 addresses our words of faith as it relates to our behavior, the two should agree.
JAMES 2:14-20 The Expanded Bible
14) My brothers and sisters [C- fellow believers], if people ·say [claim] they have faith, but do nothing, ·their faith is worth nothing [what good/profit/gain is it?]. Can faith like that save them? 15) [L- Suppose; If] A brother or sister in Christ ·might need clothes or food [L- is naked and lacks daily food]. 16) If you say to that person, “·God be with you [or I wish you well; L- Go in peace]! ·I hope you stay warm and get plenty to eat, [T- Be warmed and filled]” but you do not ·give what that person needs [provide for the needs of their body], ·your words are worth nothing [L- what good/profit/gain is that?]. 17) In the same way, faith by itself—·that does nothing [L- if it does not have works]—is dead.
18) [L- But] Someone might say, “You have faith, but I have ·deeds [works].” ·Show me [Prove; Demonstrate] your faith without ·doing anything [L- works], and I will ·show you [prove; demonstrate] my faith by ·what I do [my works]. 19) You believe ·there is one God [or that God is one; Deut. 6:4]. ·Good [L- You do well]! But the demons believe that, too, and they ·tremble with fear [shudder].
20) You ·foolish [senseless; emptyheaded] person! ·Must you be shown [Do you want evidence; Can’t you see] that faith ·that does nothing [without works] is ·worth nothing [useless; barren]?

When you, or someone you know, declares: “God knows my heart” it is the truth but do you have the heart of God or the heart of self? what are you doing that validates you are seeking Him? Consider verse 19, the demons believe there is one God yet they are loyal to Satan.  Does your behavior demonstrate your faith in Him or your need to justify self?
PSALM 15:4 The Expanded Bible
They do not respect hateful people [L- The wicked are despised in their eyes]  but honor those who ·honor [L- fear] the Lord.  They keep their promises to their neighbors, even when it hurts.
Doing the right thing does not always feel good but when Jesus is Lord of your life you do it anyway. It is possible that you confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord you may have even been baptized in water but have you allowed the Lord to take ownership of your heart?

ROMANS 10:10 The Voice
Belief begins in the heart and leads to a life that’s right with God; confession departs from our lips and brings eternal salvation.

BACK2BASICS- BACK 2 PREPPING

I have not mentioned it in a while however that does not mean it is not on my mind: being ready. When I look at what is going on around the world and I listened to the words of various not-famous people my belief in the necessity to be ready for any type of emergency increases.

We live in a politically unstable and ideologically corrupt world, even in America. As I mentioned in other post Donald J Trump is not God he is the President therefore his presidency is not about delivering us from evil but an opportunity for us to get ready for what is to come.

Like Noah, God has given us time to get ready. Noah did not have any idea what rain was or when it would come he simply obeyed the Spirit of God and built an ark.  We as Believers know that Jesus is coming, we don’t know when and many people believe in case of an emergency the government will help. Noah trusted God not the rulers of the day or popular opinion.

Many things are happening now. From time to time people experience temporary power outages or a disruption of cellular service the inconvenience causes some people to become frustrated. Many people have experienced hacking of their computer or some other type of cyber attack in which data has been illegally obtained. Even in America there has been people of different faiths attacked. These things are occurring now and in some countries it is of the extreme, meaning people are enslaved, raped and or persecuted. Yes, there is a problem with sex trafficking in America.

Far to many people are trusting a group of people, who have proven themselves to be selfish and immoral, to help them in times of need but these government officials will turn their backs on such individuals. I suspect, based on the accumulation of their personal wealth while in office, these so called representatives have already turned their back on the people. Government corruption is the norm not the exception.

The lack of integrity among elected officials is reason enough to learn how NOT to be dependent on the government. With the proliferation of GMO products being forced among the people directly or indirectly growing your own foods is a necessity.  As more homes are being built with electrical appliances including fireplaces, dependence on electricity which can be shut down with a sudden storm leads a household vulnerable. You MUST be physically fit, far to many people cannot walk to the corner let alone walk around the block, myself included. You MUST teach your family how to survive without a microwave, fast food, cable and a video game. Why?

What happens tomorrow is not known by anyone. As Believers we are told to be ready for the Son’s return not knowing the day or the hour however we do know that emergencies happen. June 1 marks the beginning of hurricane season, if a bad hurricane were to come through my area my family would be fine but not everyone believes in prepping. In other parts of the country there are some who had difficulty surviving the winter storms. Extreme temperatures, floods and fires are all emergencies that happen today which lead to outages and shortages; many are not ready.  What happens when the government cannot or will not help you?

Consider who those who entered this country illegally had better care to services than many veterans who served this country. It is only with recent events that America’s veterans have been given priority. Many of the politicians people are dependent on chose to make illegal aliens a priority over United States citizens.

Two things you must do right now get healthy and study.  Study your Bible and your environment. Then begin to prepare as if you will not have running water, electricity or enough money to buy food. Study as if your government will not be there for you. Study as if you need to know the word of God for yourself in order to survive, that is what I have been doing.    xxx written by Marsha L F Randolph

PORCH STORIES: SHE LEFT ME!

It may be hard to believe but I really do try to mind my own business but
Chip and I were sitting on the front porch, he was reading and I was knitting when Robert, a neighbor who lived about a mile down the road, dropped by.

“She left me Chip.” He said as he walked up the porch steps.

“Good evening Robert,” Chip greeted “who left you?”

“Marylou!” he stated

“Marylou is gone?” I looked up from my knitting to try to grasp what he had said. “Where did she go? Is she coming back? Or are you saying she left left?”

“Nettie, she packed her stuff two days ago, said she would send for the rest later and left. I don’t know where she is and the kids wouldn’t tell me if they knew, they always side with their momma.”

Now, I had a lot of questions. Women just don’t ‘just up and leave’ their husbands for nothing and Marylou was 67 years old she and Robert had been married for over 30 years. Chip just sat there. Not saying a word, he knew I was itching to talk.

“Now Robert,” I began my inquisition “women do not just up and leave for nothing. You two get into a fight lately?”

“No Nettie, we don’t argue.” He responded.

“Your bills paid?” I asked.

“All of them! The house been paid off for over fifteen years now.”

“Are you cheating?”

“No!”

“Did you hit her or mistreat her in anyway?”

“No, after all these years of being married, I didn’t back then and I don’t now.”

“When was the last time you told her I love you?” Chip asked.

“She knows I love her?” He answered.

“But, when did you tell her?”

“Why should I tell a woman, that I have been married to for over 30 years, I love you?”

“Because women need to know you love them by your words AND your deeds. How do you show your appreciation?”

“What kind of question is that?” Robert had a very serious face, he really had no clue!

“Robert,” Chip began “you have to show your wife that you honor her demonstrate you appreciation of all that she does. Marylou cooks and cleans your house everyday; she raised your children and looks out for your grandchildren. Marylou makes sure you are comfortable in your home. What do you do for her? Take her out to dinner every now and then? Buy her flowers? Take her someplace she wants to go?”

“Now Chip, that woman doesn’t have to pay one solid bill. Everything she does I pay for. She knits, sews, goes out to lunch with the girls I make sure she has more than enough money. And I tell her the food is good if it is good! That should be enough.”

I sat there listening to Robert, watching how he responded to Chips questions, wondering what else there was to know. “Did she ever come to you and ask you to do something that was different?” I challenged.

“Now she know I ain’t into no kinky stuff!” He answered.

“Robert.” I looked at him getting irritated. I know what Marylou and I talked about and it was not about kinky sex! “Did Marylou ever asked about going to see the Grand Canyon.”

“She has been nagging me about traveling ever since the youngest graduated college. She knows I don’t want to waste money like that. I am perfectly happy here at home!”

“Marylou, has money of her own doesn’t she Robert?” Chip asked.

“Yea, she got an inheritance years ago when her mother died. I told her not to touch it.”

“Well, I know where Marylou is gone even if you don’t.” I said. “And, I think I understand why she is gone.”

Chip looked at his friend who had been pacing on the porch for quite a while; he had paused when I made my declaration.  “I think I know too.”

“Well, will someone enlighten me.” Robert said.

“The fact that you cannot figure it out lets me know that your marriage has been in trouble for a long time. It is not that Marylou left you, she just left you behind. You, obviously, do not want to do the things that she has dreamed of doing for a long time. Marylou decided not to wait.” I said.

“Not to wait for what?”

“Marylou has gone to see the Grand Canyon before she dies Robert. And she will probably go to the other places she mentioned to you too. The children know where she is, they might even join her.”  A stunned look was on Robert’s face as Chip explained. “The fact that she has been telling you what she wants and you have disregarded it let’s me know that you have no intention of making her happy. You only want to make Robert happy.”

The idea of his wife actually traveling even though he had told her “no,” was a foreign idea to him. The past forty-eight hours had been difficult, his children refused to come and help him and he had no one to do what Marylou did everyday and what his mother did before her. If Marylou did not come back soon he would have to find someone to wash his clothes, and he hated eating out.

“Nettie, if I paid you a few dollars would you cook my dinner until Marylou got back?” Robert asked.

“No.” I answered, I got up and went into the house before he could say anything else.

Robert and Chip sat on the porch for a while talking. I went through the house and out the back door to the gazebo. I called Marylou to see how she was doing and to get her side of the story, because there is always another side.   xxx written by: Marsha L F Randolph

NETTIE-ISM # 5 GOD'S WILL YOUR WAY

You cannot do God’s will your way.

Doing things the way you want them done, believing you will get the right results, only creates a mess.

Genesis 16:2
So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.

Isaiah 55:8

A MATTER OF FAITH: WHY I DON'T CELEBRATE EASTER

1 Corinthians 11:23-25
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Take away, the new clothes, the egg hunts, the chocolate, the big meal on Easter Sunday and for many it becomes just another Sunday. Once a year Believers in His death, burial and resurrection remember the day our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Son of God. Some call this day Easter Sunday others call it Resurrection Sunday others declare it to be a pagan celebration that should not be carried out. The significance of the day should not be discounted and should be more than one of the rare occasions the family goes to church together.

There are many Christians who do not celebrate Easter because they say it is of pagan origin, though I have read this idea it is not why I choose not to have egg hunts and all that is associated with the “holiday”.  I don’t celebrate Easter because it has become very commercialized, it is a profitable day even for non-believers. In my limited research,  the one thing I know for sure is the term ‘Easter’ is not in the Bible.

2 Timothy 2:15
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

My decision to no longer ‘celebrate’ Easter is part of my faith journey. Along with Easter I am rethinking Christmas: I think it is great to have a time of giving but the truth is we do not know the day Jesus was born. The idea that food, clothing and self-indulgent activities has become the basis of the birth, death and resurrection of the Son of God is quite unsettling. Should I, or anyone else, go along with this tradition just because -this is what we have always done?

The Apostle Paul reminded us that we are to eat the bread and drink the wine in remembrance of Jesus. Communion is part of our Christian journey, there is no set time for communion we can do it anytime and anywhere. Communion has become a tradition according to the doctrine of the church. The significance of it not fully appreciated by far to many Believers. (Matthew 26:26-30)

MARK 7:13
“making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

“And many such things you do.” Many things like celebrate Easter with bunnies, new clothes and special church services which results in a temporary enthusiasm for church, but may not strengthened a persons’ relationship with God.  Christmas has become about getting bigger, better and more regardless of how much debt one accumulates. Churches create elaborate programs acknowledging the birth of Jesus during Christmas and His resurrection during the time when some are remembering the Passover. Christmas and Easter are times designated for churches to present the gospel to those who would not otherwise attend church. The church does “many such things” when what we need is to commune with our Lord.

LUKE 10:41-42
And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Martha was busy doing stuff but Mary chose to just sit at Jesus feet. For those who do want to celebrate Easter, please do not let my opinion give you any pause. I would suggest that you study Scripture and determine what Jesus would have you to do. I believe people need to learn how remember Him every day.  xxxMarsha L F Randolph

Luke 22:19
And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

NETTIE-ISM: BIBLE STUDY

People give you information as if it is fact yet, the information presented defies common sense and biblical truths. Both church leaders and educators alike are presenting false doctrines to people as if it were the only way to personal growth and success.

Romans 3:3-4
For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and may overcome when You are judged.”
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

It is crucial that you not just read your Bible to get through it but to study the words on it’s pages. Get a dictionary, get a concordance, you may even get an additional translation.  Know what God says.

PSALM 105:4 The Expanded Bible
·Depend on [Seek] the Lord and his strength; always ·go to him for help [L- seek his face].

A MATTER OF FAITH: RAISING CHILDREN TOO BUSY FOR GOD

ISAIAH 54:13 King James Version
And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

A disturbing thought occurred to me as I left my house one Sunday morning, around 9AM: Today’s children are to busy to spend time with Father God.

I see it all around me. Young people who have children and determine the best way to keep them out of trouble is to keep them busy with activity. Parents are just as busy but find time to attend or participate in, as coaches, in their child’s various athletic after school activities. True many take them to church if their is not a sporting event happening but are they really being taught about Jesus?

Once upon a time schools used the Bible to teach our children. As government’s involvement with education increased the word of the Lord decreased; but prayer remained. Prayer was replaced by a moment of silence and then that moment of silence was abolished. Look at the schools today, look at the behavior of our young people.

The New King James Version of the Bible translates Isaiah 54:13 this way: “All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.” It God through you that teaches children who He is.

EXODUS 4:15
Now you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do.

DEUTERONOMY 4:36 Expanded Bible
He spoke to you from heaven to ·teach [instruct; or discipline] you. He ·showed [revealed to] you his great fire on earth, and you heard him speak from the fire.

PSALM 71:17 The Voice
You have taught me since I was young, O God, and I still proclaim the wonderful things You have done.

Are those of us born in the late 50’s early 60’s what is left of those who believe everything in the Bible from Genesis 1:1  to Revelation 22:21? At least hear in the United States of America.

PSALM 94:10  Expanded Bible
Won’t the one who ·corrects [instructs; disciplines] nations ·punish [reprimand; reprove] you?  Doesn’t the teacher of people know everything?

There is a hell to avoid and a heaven to seek. Father God our teacher knows everything including what our children are not doing. When basketball, football, soccer, baseball, cheerleading, gymnastics or any other activity becomes second only to homework and God is put on the back-burner there is a problem.

Going to church on Easter Sunday is not the precursor to egg hunts and ham dinners. Midnight service on Christmas eve is not a time killer as children wait to open presents. Faith has to begin at home. God’s correction of nations is not like the governments.

ISAIAH 55:8-9
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.  “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

The instructions our children are receiving today from modern day academia is one of intolerance towards the teachings of Scripture which leads to anti-Christ behavior. You only have to listen to the media, any of them but liberal media in particular, to hear words that go against God’s commandments for living. Far to often we are hearing how children are being introduced to Islam by school systems that refuse to allow Christian prayer.

JEREMIAH 32:33 The Voice
They have all turned their backs to Me instead of their faces. They have refused to listen and learn from My instruction, even though I tried to teach them again and again.

Parents are not paying attention, they are to busy with their own busy schedule, to know what they children are learning. Far too many of today’s parents are looking for opportunities to relax and enjoy the fruits of their labor- “me time.” Scripture reveals what our priority should be:

MATTHEW 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these thing shall be added to you.

If your priority is not Jehovah Eloheem then your children are not going to make Him a priority. Many people will obtain whatever ‘things’ they are seeking there will be no joy or peace associated with the acquisition because there will always be a need to make sure the ‘things’ are kept. When the priority is getting the ‘thing’ the need is to not let it be foreclosed on, repossessed or stolen.

Isaiah 54:13 declares there is peace when we are taught of the Lord. It is important that parents take the time to study God’s word and share that knowledge with their children, this includes teaching them to study the Word.  Man teaches so that children can recite what has been told even if it is contrary to Scripture.

MARK 10:13-16
Then they brought little children to Him that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it. And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.

Children are empty vessels and they should be filled with the love and knowledge of our Creator Father God. Jesus said we should be like children- empty vessels- able to receive knowledge from Him. As parents our first responsibility is to present our children to the Lord unfortunately today’s children are to busy for Jesus.

What I see in my community are young boys and girls who are very respectful to adults. They come home and, according to their parents, do their homework. I see young children who are taken to various activities during the week and on the weekends. I do not see any of the families going to church, when I talk to the parents about visiting a church the response is: “I will when I have time.”

In the news I read about young children, under the age of 18, committing abhorrent crimes.  I listen to young adults demanding things that they should try to earn. I hear anger and hate from our children- I suspect they had parents to busy to teach them about God.  xxx Marsha L F Randolph

A MATTER OF FAITH: MONDAY WILL COME

I woke up this morning thinking: “It’s Sunday, tomorrow is Monday, I have so much to do.” For all of us tomorrow will come, that does not mean that it will come on this side of eternity but it will come.

For me, everyday is pact with activity but I try to rest on Sunday. If a person has the weekend off it is usually filled with activity, many people take a day off from work to catch up on rest.

Monday, for so many people represents the beginning of a new week, Sunday is the end of the previous week.

MATTHEW 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Our itinerary for the day is so full that it spills over into the next day. But if the next day is a Monday a work day for most people then what happens to the list of things that needed to be done that were not?

Jesus said,in Matthew 6:34, not to focus on tomorrow. But focus on today. When He was taught about prayer the same principle was applied.

LUKE 11:3
Give us day by day our daily bread.

We grocery shop based on extended periods of time- the week or even the month. We prepare for tomorrow but that should not be our focus.
It is when we are so consumed about tomorrow that we don’t do what needs to be done today: “Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

RUTH 3:18
Then she said, “Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out; for the man will not rest until he has concluded the matter this day.”

There are things that need to be accomplished “this day” that require your attention. Naomi instructed her daughter-in-law to not do anything else, do not plan any other activities, until Boaz does what he needs to do. Since the two women had moved to Moab Ruth had focused on gathering food for the household everyday but this routine could not go on forever. How were they going to survive if there was no harvest to gather and no money to purchase food?

If you are very busy doing things you often miss your solution.

There are times when we must wait. We cannot make plans for tomorrow because of what will happen today.

PSALM 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Trust God. When your weekend is so full that Monday comes to soon it is because your weekend is to full.

Naomi told Ruth: “Sit still.” The Psalm declares: “Be still.” The idea is to not focus on your itinerary but to pay attention to what is going on today. What is the Holy Spirit telling you?

God is in your today.

HEBREWS 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is a “now” thing not a tomorrow thing. This is an important factor to consider particularly when you are focused on tomorrow. If you don’t have a productive day today it could adversely affect your tomorrow.

LUKE 10:41-42
And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Martha had a big agenda for the day whereas, Mary focused on what was happening at the moment. Despite Martha’s fretting and Mary’s sitting everyone was served food.

Monday is going to come. For some Monday will be another workday, for others it will be the day they walk into an eternal life. What is important is what you are doing today.
