MY COUNTRY CITY PROJECT: THE JOURNEY BEGINS

BANANA TREE
STRAWBERRIES & HERBS
Lately gardening has consumed much of my non-writing time. Gardening is key to my transition from living in an urban community to the country and requires a discipline that I did not have.

It is like driving. Getting in the habit of moving your car forward while being aware of all that is going on around you, cars coming and going, street signs and unexpected events like a child running after a ball, can be overwhelming at first. Eventually you develop driving skills and can “stop on a dime,”  weave through rush our traffic and navigate wild life on a dark dirt road. Developing gardening skills is like driving.

There is more to agriculture than watering seeds. Soil quality, weather reports and predators are just a few of the things I am learning to be conscious of. Since I have a container garden I understand that size matters! And I need to have the next container ready. Failure to have the proper soil, too much or not enough rain, pest that go unchecked or a container that is too small can lead to crop failure.

LAST YEAR'S
TOMATO
Last season was a test run. Now the real deal begins and already I am running behind schedule! I
have sweet potatoes that need to be planted!

In addition, I have had to take a few steps back and study how to grow my plants. Ignorance is a seed killer!

On a more positive note: I have a moringa olifera plant growing! If you don’t know about moringa just wait I am working on a few blogs and will share my personal experiences as I am taking Moringa as a supplement.  —written by Marsha L F Randolph

A MATTER OF FAITH: YOU NEED A HUG!

When I moved to Miami Florida in 1999 I began attending Grace Church of Kendal, I attended regularly for one year. One Sunday the Pastor told everyone who needed prayer to come forward, I went. As I stood there listening to the Pastor speak words of encouragement and praying for various individuals a member of the choir made her way down. The choir was positioned behind the pulpit and her seat was in the last row. She made her way down the set of steps in the choir loft, around the pulpit and down more steps; she  walked through the crowd of people waiting to be prayed for and stopped in front of me. She looked at me and said: “The Lord said to give you a hug.” She said nothing else just hugged me, I received what I needed and went back to my seat.

MARK 14:37
Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour?

NO! Jesus did not need a hug.

The son of man, Jesus, was going through a trying time.  It had already been revealed that one of the 12 men He had personally taught would betray Him; not to mention another would deny Him. Of the 12 men, disciples, there were three whom He chose to accompany Him as He went to pray, but, they did not go all the way to His prayer space - the Garden of Gethsemane.

Jesus had said to the three men, John, James and Peter: “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.” (Mark 14:34) When He returned they were asleep. Apparently, they could not stay awake one more hour- it had been a long day. What could He have said to them to get them to understand how much He wanted them to be there for Him?

He needed a friend. Someone to “watch His back” while He took care of business. No one could go through what He was getting ready to go through but at least they could be empathetic; pray for Him, make sure no one bothers Him.

Sometimes that is what we need. When we are going through difficult times it is good to know there is someone you can call in the middle of the night. Who is with you when you are going through troubling times?

2 CORINTHIANS 13:12
Greet one another with a holy kiss.

Judas kissed Jesus but it was a kiss of betrayal! (Luke 22:47-48)

That day at the alter I felt alone, I had been going through so much yet I did not complain because someone is always going through something, some worst than what I was enduring.  For me that day, the alter call, became my walk towards the Garden of Gethsemane. I needed prayer and like Jesus I received heavenly help.

LUKE 9:32 KJV
But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.

When the three men saw the glory of the Lord they wanted to ‘do something’ significant to remember what had happened. Their focus was about personal experiences not what Jesus was going through.

When I had gone up to the alter that Sunday, many years ago, I was looking for encouragement, support and love. My life had gone through a major change and I was willing to endure but I knew the journey would not be easy. While others were celebrating a new phase of my life what I was about to embark upon weighed heavily on my soul.

LUKE 22:41-42
And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

No, I do not equate my burdens with that of my Lord’s but there is a principle. And this is it:

PHILIPPIANS 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

What Father God did for me back in 1999 was remind me that He is with me all the way,, I was not alone.  What He did for His Son over 2000 years ago, was encouraged Him letting Him know He was not alone. Father God sent both of us hugs.

Over 2000 years ago Jesus sent a hug to you; believe and receive. He wants to encourage you to move forward. He wants to help you.

MATTHEW 11:28
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Sometimes we forget the extent of God’s love. When we are going through difficult times we may discount, put in the back of our minds, the significance of Jesus obedience to Father God and what He endured to ensure that we would have access to heavenly help.

JOHN 3:16 The Voice
For God expressed His love for the world in this way: He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not face everlasting destruction, but will have everlasting life.

1 JOHN 4:9
In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.

Jesus was disrespected, ridiculed, beaten, nailed to a cross to die so that we could maintain a relationship with Father God and have things we needed here on earth.   (Isaiah 53:4-9) His obedience is what helps us receive from Father God. His resurrection from the dead is what guaranteed we could live in victory. Yet, there is more because though God the Father is in Heaven and Jesus sits in heaven on the right side of Father God we still have God on earth. (Hebrews 12:2)

John 14:16
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

Being filled with the Holy Spirit is the greatest hug you will ever receive. Those who recognize His presence in their life will go out of their way to share the overflowing love present.

1 JOHN 4:11
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

That is what that woman did for me way back in 1999. She reminded me that I was loved.  And I am taking the time to let you know— YOU ARE LOVED TOO!   ---written by Marsha L F Randolph

LIVING BETTER: PAIN IS IMPORTANT

There are two things pain tells me: something is wrong with my body or something is wrong with my soul. Without pain I cannot make the necessary life adjustments to correct the wrongs.

Take for example arthritis. There is both inflammation in various parts of the body and pain, neither of these symptoms are normal. For over a year I treated the discomfort in my body with over the counter pills called Alieve; but they have side effects.

Side effects of a drug is the result of your body reacting to a ‘foreign’ substance. Even such minor thing like a rash, which is what I experienced with Alieve, can lead to major problems if not addressed. Your body is telling you: “Stop doing what you are doing!”

My solution to getting rid of the pain will not give me immediate results but is a better long term solution FOR ME! (I am not a doctor, you have to do what is right for you.) I am loosing weight, one pound at a time. I am changing my diet- as I learn about healthier choices I am making them. And I am adding such supplements as moringa olifera.

Emotional discomfort is a type of pain, people want to avoid hurt at any cost today. If you are physically hurt you can take a pill but if you are hurting emotionally the pills the doctors prescribe temporarily mask the pain. Legalizing marijuana has allowed people to deaden their senses so that they will not have to experience: sadness, sorrow, loneliness, fear, rejection, insecurities and such.

Happiness, not induced by drugs, is an indication that all is well; emotional discomfort is a clue that all is not well. The absence of peace, joy, and love is an indication that you are not being cared for as Father God wants you to be cared for.

We have become a world in which God is the last resort; sad isn’t it. The pharmaceutical companies are getting rich because the one thing they know is you will always need a pill for either physical or emotional pain. Corporations are creating foods of convenience that are causing problems that will manifest itself in the future which will require you to take more drugs.  Drugs have become the number one answer to most peoples pain.

I wrote MOVING FORWARD B Y FAITH (available via Smashwords in all ebook formats) to share the lessons I learned about getting through painful times. Drugs are a temporary fix to a problem that requires lifestyle changes. I am a firm believer in studying your Bible with church providing an opportunity for fellowship and supplementing your knowledge of God. I firmly believe nothing works without faith in Father God through Jesus Christ, absolutely nothing.

Pain is an indication that something is not right with your life. Chronic pain = Chronic problems. Drugs hide the problems for a few hours changing the way you live is the beginning of a solution. ---written by Marsha L F Randolph

A MATTER OF FAITH: SHE SAID WHAT????

1 CORINTHIANS 14:34
Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says.

Does the Bible really teach against women serving as church leaders? If you read this verse without putting it into context the answer would be: “Yes, it does.”

The Apostle Paul states: the women should keep silent “as the law also says.” So, what does the  law say? Searching the old and the new Covenant you will discover: There is no law about a woman not serving as church leaders.

First Corinthians 14:34 is establishing order in the church not banning women from being leaders. Within the home the husband is the head and has the greater authority, all questions pertaining to how the family lives are presented to him.(Ephesians 5:22, Colossians 3:18) Teaching God’s word does not begin and end within the walls of the church apparently the women in Corinth were not seeking counsel from their husbands prior to coming to service.

1 CORINTHIANS 14:35
And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.

The women were asking questions that they should have been asked at home. They were embarrassing their husbands.

In studying 1 Corinthians 14 the Apostle Paul was correcting everyone not just the women. Verse 35 was addressed specifically to married women. The  entire body was out of order.

1 Corinthians 14:40
Let all things be done decently and in order.
Unfortunately modern man decided to take this verse out of context as a method of putting women down (as they did with slavery). God does allow women to advice, teach and lead men. Throughout Scripture women have assisted men in living a victorious life not only in scriptural teaching but in battle and activities of daily living.

One of my favorite female leaders is Deborah (Judges 4) she was a married woman who was a Prophetess sitting in the office of a Judge. She not only shared the word of God with the people but she judged (advised) men when there was a dispute. A significant story was when she led men to a victorious battle.

Judges 4:5-9
And she would sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the mountains of Ephraim. And the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. Then she sent and called for Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, “Has not the Lord God of Israel commanded, ‘Go and deploy troops at Mount Tabor; take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun; and against you I will deploy Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude at the River Kishon; and I will deliver him into your hand’?”
And Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go!”
So she said, “I will surely go with you; nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.
What about the verse in 1 Timothy? He said women should not teach or have authority over a man. Again, at first glance this verse seems very straight-forward.

1 TIMOTHY 2:12
And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.

As I was mulling over verses 8 through 15, which is segmented in my Bible I realized- you have to read the entire chapter. The Bible was not written in numbered sentences or topical sections thus it is important to read the entire book to grasp the essence of what the writer is saying.

What Timothy is speaking of is how a woman should minister to a man. Putting this verse within the context of the subject it is important to note that first Timothy chapter two is discussing prayer: ”Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,” (verse 1).

Can a woman teach a man how to intercede for his family? Perhaps, but should she?

Think about this. Today we have “Men’s Conferences” in which men teach other men’ and “Women’s Conferences” in which women teach women. Because there are some things that only a man can teach a man and there are somethings that only a woman can teach a woman.

This does not mean that a man cannot learn from a woman. It is not that women cannot or should not preach but women need to exercise caution and not minister to men outside the presence of her husband.

2 TIMOTHY 2:13-14
For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression

Eve was a married woman. Genesis teaches that the Serpent spoke to Eve and challenged her understanding of God’s word.  Adam was present but did not stop Eve, she convinced her husband to eat of the same fruit she had. Had Eve submitted to her husband and simply asked referred the serpent to her husband or asked her husband’s opinion things might have turned out differently.

For single women, living outside of their father’s home, Jesus is their head; for married women their husband is their cover. (Husbands are Christ earthly representatives. Ephesians 5:23-25)
Married women have responsibilities within their household which includes overseeing the spiritual maturity of their children. Problems occur when we try to be “ministers” outside of the home before ministering to those who live within our household.

1 CORINTHIANS 7:13-14
And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.

Women can hold offices within the ministry of our Lord but their primary responsibility is to their household (Titus 1:6).

I believe there are some very knowledgeable men and women who should not be teaching because their home life sucks! I also believe there are women who are full of wisdom but do not share because someone told them that women cannot serve in the ministry. Women can and do serve and there is no Scripture that says they cannot. The Apostle Paul reminded the Galatians:

GALATIANS 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

PORCH STORIES:

There are two things I firmly believe about family: children should grow up and out of the house and or parents should grow old peacefully and with joy. All of my children are grown and gone, they stay in touch with me and I keep in touch with them. I understand that when I get old there may be a time in which I cannot make decisions for myself, when that time comes if Chip cannot care for me I trust my children will do the right thing by me.

I have an Aunt who lives on the other side of town, Aunt Jemimia. Her children live in other states but they have made arrangements to make sure the 90 year old matriarch is cared for without intruding on her independence, such as it is. Aunt Jemimia lives alone, being widowed twenty years ago,  in her house which she has been in for over 60 years.

Today was visit day! I special order her favorite candy to take with me whenever I visit: Strawberry licorice string (not the kind in the package), Necco Wafers and a Bit-O-Honey candy bar. No flowers for Aunt Jemimia!  I arrived just as the UPS truck was pulling away.

“Girl! I haven’t seen you in a month of Sundays!” She exclaimed from her front porch.  I entered the house to see two boxes sitting on her dining room table.

“I know it has been a while.” I smiled

“I know you busy chile’. It’s always good when you can come visit your Aunt Jemimia! You heard from your cousins? Albert sent me some shoes the other day for church, they fit just fine! And I don’t know who keeps sending all this food! I haven’t had to cook in so long I think I might have forgotten how!” my aunt started laughing."

“Is that what is in them boxes? Something from Albert?" My cousins had arranged for traditional southern foods to be shipped to their mother twice times a week to keep her from cooking. A neighbor who was also paid to look in on her a few days a week cooked her food twice a week and the church sent her  a meal at least once a week.

“No, Nettie that’s my computer I got with my credit card! And I think the other one is some towels I ordered.”

“Is Nella still coming by?” Nella was the caregiver, a friend of Aunt Jemimia’s daughter.

“Now don’t go on about her. She has a good heart and she’s trying. One of Nella’s children got sick and so I told her not to come till they get better. I don’t need no germs at my age, she will be here tomorrow I guess.”

“Did Alexandria get you a credit card?” Alexandria oversaw her mothers’ finances.

“No, I gave birth to them I don’t need no permission to do what I want to do. I got them on my own, and wasn’t  hard.  The company gave me a $200 credit limit and I didn’t even use that much. All I have to do is pay $10 a month.”

“You bought a computer for less than $200?”

“No girl, that is my other card. This one gave me a $500 limit.” Reaching for her wallet (in her bra of course) she pulled out three catalog cards.

“Aunt Jemimia, how many credit cards do you have?”

“I have three!” she seemed so proud of the fact that she had credit cards.

I was getting angry, junk mail should be banned from the homes of people on fixed income and those on Social Security. My aunt needed nothing and when she did need something her children bought if for her. Her house was paid for even when it was remodeled the children paid for it, her children paid the property tax as well.

As she began to show me the things she had purchased with her credit cards it became apparent that everything she bought was not worth the money she would eventually give to the company that sold it to her.

Lot’s of people use these companies to buy cute towels and washcloths and other household items that barely last a year if used regularly.  I have discovered people also buy televisions that seem great in the picture but will not allow the viewer to experience high definition television or connect to the internet as the cheapest store bought television can do. Further more returning these products is next to impossible once the shipping container is opened.

For many people, their already bad credit is ruined because the $10 a month they pay for these items becomes $20 a month and then $50 a month. During the holidays everyone’s credit limit is raised as is the minimum payment, that minimum payment usually covers the interest the company charges but not the actual principle (the cost of the item).  Because the amount of credit is extended around the holidays it is an easy way to purchase presents for everyone. Eventually, the individual has to choose between paying one of their regular household expenses or paying the credit card bill for something that does not work- they choose to buy food or keep the lights on, this is how credit is ruined, judgements are made and things get garnished or taken away.

A quick phone call to my cousin Alexandria ended my aunts credit card use. Nella would be instructed to return, if possible, the computer and my aunt would be given a tablet with games on it instead, she did not need a computer.

My aunt and I sat on her front porch for about an hour just talking while she enjoyed a licorice. Apparently, getting the credit card and having things delivered to her house was more important than the stuff itself. When Nella pulled up with her children in tow I got up to leave.

I made a mental note to visit my aunt more often and to have something delivered to her house at least twice a month. The first thing I would do is have her candy delivered to her!  Aunt Jemimia did not want flowers unless she was dead. ---written by Marsha L F Randolph

MY COUNTRY CITY PROJECT: I HAVE A QUILT-A-PHOBIA!

MY SINGER 301A
The squares in the pillow should
have been part of a quilt!
I have quilt-a-phobia! That has to be the problem because there is no other excuse why I have not made a quilt. I have 3 sewing machines and a serger, lot’s of thread, plenty of machine needles; I even purchased fabric to make a quilt with.
Did I mention I bought rotary scissors and a cutting board? What is wrong with me??????
Since my 2016 declaration: I would make a quilt by the end of the year, I have made 4 skirts, 1 blouse, 5 pillows of various sizes, a place-mat and a change purse. Yes, I have had time to make soap, crochet, knit and garden but I have yet to start on the quilt!

I have seen the work of other, more advanced quilters, and it is intimidating. My problem is definitely F.E.A.R: False Evidence Appearing Real.  Silly right!!! Of all the things I have accomplished in my life I have developed an “I can’t” attitude in regards to making a quilt.

I decided to get over my quit-a-phobia one step at a time. I will be using my Singer 301A to make quilts so I lifted out of its’ hole in the sewing machine table and it is now positioned to go. Step 2 was to wash my fabric, which I did, however I decided some of the fabric I was going to use is not what I want thus I will be purchasing more fabric as well as quilting thread. After gathering the fabric my next step will be to cut out my squares. Then I will just start sewing- one square at a time.

Learning new things is a process, don’t expect to be a Jedi just because you have a light-saber. After 30 years of sewing I am still learning. My goal is to take my time and enjoy the journey. ---written by Marsha L F Randolph

A MATTER OF FAITH: SOCIAL MEDIA & BIBLE STUDY

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

The Bible does not say “all Pastors,” or “all Bible Teachers” or even “all denominations,” are profitable.

John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

PSALM 119:38, 50, 89, 105
38) Establish Your word to Your servant, Who is devoted to fearing You.
50) This is my comfort in my affliction, For Your word has given me life.
89) Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.
105) Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

It is the word of God that is the key to a better life not man. Father God chooses men (and women) to present His words to his children.

EPHESIANS 4:11-13
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,  till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

It is His will to have men and women present His word to the people so that they understand how to live a blessed life. I have learned, through observation and the hard way, that some of the individuals standing in the pulpit are not properly fulfilling God’s will for the office they hold. (That is a nice way of saying they are presenting crap!)

Some people believe that they cannot question / challenge the man or woman of God but you can and should. With the growing number of Social Media Ministers- individuals sharing the gospel via YouTube,Facebook and Twitter- it is even more important that the hearer or reader of the word know what the Bible actually states. It is important that we review the the words of those telling us their understanding of Scripture. I firmly believe that everyone should study the Bible independent of outside opinion however, the proliferation of Social Media Ministers makes this idea even more needed.

As a teacher of God’s word I, and anyone else, must understand that we will be held accountable for our teachings.

1 TIMOTHY 6:3-5
If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.

The increase availability of alternative Bible teachings is a result, I believe, of the proliferation of Bible manipulation. ‘Keep your hands off of the anointed or you will be cursed’ therefore you cannot say your Pastor is wrong even if he is. Or, give your not enough and God will make it more than enough even if that money you are holding onto is your rent money. People are taught Scripture (MY OPINION) in order to make sure church bills are paid which is why the church staff is doing well financially and the people are still struggling - after years of sitting under a particular church’s teachings.

The number of non-traditional churches will increase as traditional churches present messages based on Social Doctrine.

What is Social Doctrine? When the word of man becomes more influential than the word of God.

ROMANS 3:4
Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and may overcome when You are judged.”

There are many who accept homosexuality as a “normal” lifestyle therefore a lesbian church leader is acceptable- God says no. The Pope has declared it appropriate to have Islamic prayer within the borders of the Vatican- the first THREE commandments have not changed. The acceptance of abortion by a Baptist Preacher who declares this to be acceptable to God. then  it becomes necessary to share the gospel- “by any means necessary.”

LUKE 19:40
But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”

As a teacher of God’s word it is important to study the word and speak His truths regardless of what other churches are doing. As hearers of the word we must know that not everyone who talks about Jesus has a personal relationship with Him and understands the truths within Scripture. Jesus and the Apostle Peter warned us that there would be false teachers.

MATTHEW 7:15
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves”

2PETER 2:1
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

Not all teachings are obviously anti-Bible some just fall short of the life changing power that accompanies the speaking of God’s truths.

HEBREWS 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Churches around the world are teaching an overview of the word without reaching the heart of God.

Women who have been in churches for years see nothing wrong with having an abortion knowing that God is merciful (Psalm 127:3,Psalm 66:20). Both men and women give tithes and offerings while committing adultery because God is forgiving (Matthew 8:21). Many regular church attendees as well as church leaders are actively, and all to often, openly practicing homosexuality because God is no respecter of persons (Romans 2:11).  Because the message of today’s churches is focused on motivation and not Christian living biblical principles are not applied to activities of daily living.

JOHN 7:16-17
Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.

If Jesus said He did not teach His doctrine but Father God’s doctrine then why should a person accept the opinions of someone just because he or she has a title and speaks in a building?

It is your responsibility as a hearer of the word to study your Bible and make sure that what you are receiving is the truth.

2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

BACK TO BASICS: 7 MINUTES / 500 WORDS

As a Blogger I have learned: people will read my post if it is less than 500 words and has a catchy title. As a Vlogger I learned: people will watch your video if it is less than seven minutes, has a catchy title and an interesting picture. Why?

I really do not know why. I think the world has become a “mini-info” place; people want the smallest amount of information preferably something that does not force them to think. Very few people want to be responsible for the realities of life.

I have heard reference to “the microwave generation” but it is not one generation that chooses to be ‘less informed’. As I watch people from all walks of life stand in line, sometimes overnight, for a cell phone I know that it is not because of lack of time that many refuse to read more. Perhaps what we have is a “culture of immediate gratification” meaning people want what makes them feel good not what encourages them to think.

During the past election cycle I was amazed at how often I heard people quote, almost verbatim, what was said on the news about a particular candidate. On social media, particularly after the election, the amount of news articles that had deceiving headlines were shared without actually validating the story. The rules of Social Media engagement have become: If someone said it in less than 30 seconds it could be repeated; if someone wrote it in less than 10 words it could be shared. It takes a lot of time and effort to actually research information presented.

Not everything should be presented in seven minutes or stated in 500 words or less. In order for a person to develop his or her own opinion you must receive as much information as possible.

For example: years ago I listened to a 2 hour video on genetically modified products, GMOs. I did not think much about the information and tuned out much of the presentation. News stories, such as they were, on the product were presented as ‘nothing to be concerned about.’ Last year I started paying attention and realized the dangers of and the proliferation of GMO products into society. My learning of the product is based on hours of listening and thousands of words read.

As I approach the 500 word mark I must sum things up!

It is easy to deceive people when they don’t want to read or hear about a topic but know they should at least be aware of it.  A 30 second commercial can tell you with loud noise, extreme colors and words of excitement how great a product is and avoid telling you why you should not buy it. Ninety minutes of church service, start to finish,is more palatable than 60 minutes of Bible teaching. A history book is more informative than a news personality presenting an opinion. Be not be deceived you need more than 500 words.       Word count 500!   xxx written by Marsha L F Randolph

NETTIE-ISM # WHAT YA' GOT?

What do you contribute to the relationship?

Luke 6:38 The Expanded Bible
Give, and ·you will receive [L- it will be given to you]. ·You will be given much [L …a good measure…]. ·Pressed down [Compacted], shaken together, and running over, it will spill into your lap [C- the image is of grain overflowing its container]. The ·way you give to [standard/measure you use with] others is the ·way God will give to [standard/measure God will use with] you.”

Are you giving superficial things: flowers, jewelry and such? Or are you giving of yourself?

How do you determine what you are going to give your spouse? Your children? Your friends?  Do you give exactly what a person deserves? Or is your giving unconditional?

LUKE 6:38 The Voice
Don’t hold back—give freely, and you’ll have plenty poured back into your lap—a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, brimming over. You’ll receive in the same measure you give.

No Political Affiliation: A LACK OF...

It is clear to anyone who has a smidgen of moral restraint that today’s politicians lack quite a few skills necessary to represent a group of people. The main skill lacking is integrity.

Integrity- the ability to maintain a particular stance, usually based on ethics, regardless of the opinions of others or the adverse consequences it may cause to ones’ self.

To say that Congress has a majority of immoral, unethical representatives is believable by most Americans today. Why? Because of the state of this nation. The voice of the people is not heard because of the financial contributions, glorified bribes, of various groups to various congressional representatives.

How do illegal aliens obtain housing, food, and health care faster than American veterans in need of housing food and health care?  Congressional representatives are supported by liberal ideology found within various media outlets to ensure the protection of illegal aliens while ignoring what is happening to the citizens of this country- suicides among veterans is not a news worthy topic.

The people who need representation the most cannot afford to financially contribute to the campaigns (bribe) of the representatives. People vote political affiliation because they think the party platform is about “we the people,”  it is not. However, lack of income cannot be a reason to continue supporting political parties. Books at the library are free and so are the newspapers that can be read there. Though special interest groups can buy various Congressional representatives if voters were to become more knowledgeable regarding a candidate, not the political party, there would be a change in how the nation is run.

I was thinking about how angry many are about the Confederate flag and other things that reminded some of pre-civil war south. It’s amazing that the very people who are upset about history that can be ignored but not erased celebrate vulgar music with lyrics that refer to women as  [EXCUSE THE LANGUAGE] ‘bitches’ and ‘whores’ which is far more derogatory. Consider the outlandish behavior of some Congressional representatives when they placed, in the congressional building, a picture that portrayed police officers as pigs; far more disrespectful than the Confederate Flag. I call all of this behavior - majoring in the minors; it is childish behavior that will not clear up the water in Flint, Michigan.

Yes, it is a lack of integrity that plagues this nation. Who dares to stand up for what is right and not what is profitable. Why does party loyalty trump representing the people? Why do our congressional representatives accept, indirect, financial support from corporations that do not have the people’s best interest at heart’ companies like Monsanto.

No, the people are just as guilty. Far to many “Millennials,” as they are called, refuse to accept any responsibility for their lives. People over 60 are looking for their “benefits” even what they did not put into the system- regardless of how it effects this country’s financial status. African-Americans’ still want their ‘40 acres and a mule’ in the form of free education. Low income individuals want everything they can get that is free. These various groups vote for people they think are going to give them what they want.

The media manipulates their listeners to promote a specific ideology. Politicians tell voters what they want to hear knowing that they will be obligated to various organizations when they win. As long as people keep voting for a particular alphabet Congress will continue to be plagued with those who lack integrity. And as long as voters refuse to be personally accountable for their vote and simply vote for the “D” -Democrat or “R”- Republican then America will continue to have problems.

President Donald Trump is one man, he is not God, he is not the Saviour. President Trump cannot do everything that America needs as long as people continue to be more concerned about statures that have been around for over 50 years than career politicians that have yet to accomplish even a balanced budget.  xxx written by Marsha L F Randolph
