A MATTER OF FAITH: THE STANDARD IS GOD'S WORD

DEUTERONOMY 4:2
You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

Confusion is rising among God’s peoples because of the different church philosophies. The different doctrines as it relates to such things as heaven and hell to what the Word of God states about homosexuality have resulted in many living lifestyles that lead to damnation.

Unfortunately, far to many people do not know that they are hearing falsehoods. They do not know that what they are hearing, words that make them feel good about themselves are not pleasing to God.

ISAIAH 51:40
“I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.”

God has declared in His word that it is the peoples fault because they do not know His words.

HOSEA 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

Like choosing which movie a person is going to see many Christians determine which church to associate with by its’ popularity. Heaven and hell are real and you can follow the crowd to hell or establish a personal relationship with Father God through His Son Jesus the Messiah.

Far to many choose church by standards other than the Word. Denominations, language spoken, racial make up and even style of service are key factors in where a person sits on their Sabbath. (Even which day of the week a service is held can be a major influence.) For some people a one hour service is to long for others it is to short. Some people think sitting and listening to the church leader teach is boring while others hate hearing a person shout for 45 minutes. (My bias: I don’t like shouting.) The standard should be: Is God’s word being presented according to the text.

2 TIMOTHY 3:16 The Expanded Bible
All Scripture is ·inspired by God [breathed out by God; L- God-breathed] and is useful for teaching, for ·showing people what is wrong in their lives [refuting error; rebuking], for correcting faults, and for ·teaching how to live right [training in righteousness].
Churches are evaluated by:

  • BIBLE STUDY- is it small groups or one big mid-week service
  • CHILDREN’S MINISTRY- do the kids have a variety of activities, do they sit and learn with lessons that mimic the adults lessons or can they just enjoy themselves while the grown-ups heare the Word.
  • TITHE POLICY- Does the church make a big deal of it or do they just say give as you can
  • LIFESTYLE MESSAGES- does the church leader preach against my lifestyle: homosexuality, adultery, fornication, abuse, gambling, drunkenness, gluttoney, abortion or any other sin.
  • EXPECTATIONS OF THE MEMBERS- Do I have to do anything? Does the church expect me to serve in some capacity?

A church that professes Jesus as Lord has one standard and one standard alone: THE WORD OF GOD.

ROMANS 10:8
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):
2 TIMOTHY 4:2
Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

Church leaders should share the Word of God and nothing else. Believers must know the word in order to evaluate what is being presented to them. The standard for fellowship is the Word of God.

Note the word “rebuke” in 2 Timothy 4:2. For some hearing the word preached on a Sunday morning will rebuke.  Look at the expanded version of this word. (The Expanded Bible expands upon, elaborates upon, a word giving more insight to its’ definition.)

2 TIMOTHY 4:2
Preach the ·Good News [Gospel]. Be ready ·at all times [whether it is convenient or inconvenient; in season or out of season], and ·tell people what they need to do [correct; reprove]. ·Tell them when they are wrong [Rebuke]. ·Encourage [Comfort; Exhort] them with ·great patience and careful teaching [L- all patience and teaching],

The history of Christianity reveals various times of extreme religion. From persecuting those who do not believe to ignoring sins that the Bible tells us is an abomination to the Lord today’s church is in a state of decline.

2 TIMOTHY 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

The VOICE TRANSLATION presents 2 Timothy 4:3 this way-
“because a time will come when some will no longer tolerate sound teaching. Instead, they will live by their own desires; they’ll scratch their itching ears by surrounding themselves with teachers who approve of their lifestyles and tell them what they want to hear.”

People will go to wherever a man or woman is speaking wht they want to hear. Thus we cannot be surprised when a church leader is a practicing Lesbian and endorses same sex marriage. Or a mega church leader states his understanding of homosexuality is “evolving” In order to justify a philosophy many have gone against what DeuteronOmy 4:2 states, they have added to and taken away from God’s word. The Apostle Paul continues, in 2 Timothy 4, warning his student to stay try to the Word despite opposition.
2 TIMOTHY 4:5
But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
It is crucial, a matter of life and death, that we all study God’s word. Take notes in church and compare what the church leader says with what Scripture says.

A common practice I have seen in churches today is the quoting of other theologians to validate their point. I myself use multiple Bible references and will seek Bible commentaries when I want to validate my own interpretation of Scripture, however, man’s opinion is not my final opinion. There are theologians who believe homosexuality is acceptable, there are Bibles printed that make it easier to justify a particular lifestyle.
JAMES 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

The Bible tells us to go to God for wisdom not theologians. There is nothing wrong with using these tools however our primary resources is the Holy Spirit and the standard must be the Word of God.  — Marsha L F Randolph

We experience emergencies EVERY DAY, unfortunately many Christians are not ready. They are dependent on the government to be there should something drastic happens. This is not God's way. I wrote this book when I was researching what it meant to be a "Prepper" I thought Christians cannot be Preppers and I thought there were no Black Christian Preppers - I was wrong. In fact the concept of being prepared began in the Bible. READ; YOU'RE NOT READY available in ebook format via SMASHWORDS.
