A MATTER OF FAITH: VAIN REPTITIONS

MATTHEW 6:7
And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Vain repetitions are words spoken that do not align with the Word of God. For example: “Be it Your will.” Jehovah Eloheem has given us His will thus if you do not know it then He has no reason to listen to You.  Iknow quite a few individuals who use this phrase, “Be it Your will,” often.  Another example of vain repetitions is the “Hail Mary” prayer cited by many Catholics.

People believe Father God hears their prayers because they are humble when they go before Him not presuming to know the mind of God. Why would our Lord tell us to pray “Your will be done” (Matthew 6:10)? Father God has revealed His will in His word and to declare “be it God’s will” is equivalent to saying “I don’t know what God wants me to do.”

And what does the repetition of the “Hail Mary” prayer do? Nothing- Mary is not an intercessor the Holy Spirit is (Romans 8:26-27), Jesus is (Hebrews 7:24-28)  Jesus said:
MARK 11:24
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

If you believe you receive then your prayers of that of thanksgiving and not questioning “be it Your will.” Jesus says the manifestation is based on your believing that you received not wondering if you are going to get.

My book BEFORE YOU PRAY FOR ME PART 1 discusses core elements of prayer. It is important that you understand how Father God responds to Your words. I believe, and this is elaborated upon in the book, that many prayers do not reach the heavens; meaning God does not hear your prayer. God does not have to say “No.”

ECCLESIASTES 5:2 The Expanded Bible
·Think before you speak [L -Do not be quick with your mouth], and ·be careful about what you say [L- do not let your heart rush to utter a word] to God. God is in heaven, and you are on the earth,    so ·say only a few words to God [L- let your words be few].

Let your words be few. Father God already knows what you need.

MATTHEW 6:5-8
“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

I BELIEVE, prayer is a personal conversation with Father God. When you go in your quiet space and speak to Him, because it is a conversation, you also listen to Him. Father God knows what you need and if you listen He will put His words and His will for you on your heart.

PSALM 37:4-5
Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him,
and He shall bring it to pass.

The word instructs us to:

  • Trust the Lord (the Word) and do good
  • While we live here obtain nourishment from the faithfulness of Father God (the Word)
  • Find pleasure in the Lord (the Word) who will give us desires planted in our hearts.
  • We must commit to doing things His way (found in the Word)
  • Living God’s way leads to answered prayer not vain- irrelevant, ineffective, man generated- words.

JOHN 9:31
Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.
